Donald "Don" Theodore Salyer, 80, Auburn, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018.
He was born March 26, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Gerald and Ruth (Walters) Salyer.
Don was active in the Auburn Community, volunteering at the Community Center and with Harvesters. He served on the board with Auburn Housing Authority and the Community Center. Donald celebrated 10 years with AA. He treasured the support he was given and proudly passed that on to others in his group.
On July 3, 1955, he married Helen Jean Herman in Topeka. They later divorced. On December 25, 1977, he married Sharon (Knox) Alford in Topeka. She preceded him in death February 19, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra, 11 brothers and sisters, Walt, Edith, James, Betty, John, Eugene, Donna, Pat, Irene, Sharon and infant sister and his first spouse, Helen (Herman) Salyer Geiss.
Survivors include three children, Rick (Susan) Salyer, David Salyer (Delpha Packer) and Kimberly (Ron) Anderson; son-in-law, Marc Steiner; two step-children, Pat (Jr) Warford and Bob Alford; one brother, David Salyer, 17 grandchildren, Tracy (John) Braunsdorf, Thomas (Kelsey) Salyer, Trisha (Jayden) Wodke, Matthew (Amanda) Steiner, Jonathan Steiner, Jacob Steiner (Celesteal Clark), Cortni (Jay) Hurst, Lauren Teaford (Matthew Gakle), Lennon Salyer, Paul (Auburn) Packer, Emily Packer (Anthony Vega), DeAnn (Ben) Atkinson, GaVin (Dana) Chandler, Kaylynn Anderson (Andrew Oliver), Kelsey Anderson, Isayah (Carrie) Warford and Shelby Warford and 13 great-grandchildren, Kaiya, Jetta, Paxton, Alyvia, Leona, Lydia, Miles, Elizabeth, Owen, Spencer, Bennett, Bodie, Charlotte and more on the way.
Don was not an idle hand. He enjoyed staying busy building bird houses, lawn decorations and anything that needed fixing. Don was a very giving man, known for always helping anyone and everyone he could. He enjoyed spending time with his family the most, alongside his trusted sidekick, Rosie Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, in Topeka. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
