Donald G. Phinney, Jr., 62, of Topeka passed away on Tuesday December 12, 2017. He was born March 12, 1955 at Topeka at the son of Donald Gene Phinney, Sr and Genevieve Pappan Phinney. He was raised in Topeka graduating from Seaman High School in 1973. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating. While in the Marines, he served for a while in Japan. Don worked at Goodyear for over 30 years before retiring. After his retirement he worked at Capital Insulation. He enjoyed NASCAR, tractor pulls, drag racing at Heartland Park, he was devoted to running his dune buggy in the sand dunes at Waynoka State Park in Oklahoma, and had a lifetime love of playing softball, whether it was in the Goodyear League or at the Phinney ball field on Grantville Road.
Survivors include his daughter, Olivia D. Phinney; sons Rigo Phinney, Heath Fiebig; brother, Mike Phinney and wife Cheryl; sisters, Jeanine Kaberline and Teresa Phinney; and grandchildren, Taigan and George. Donald’s family all are residents of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his brother Rick Phinney earlier this year. Don was also preceded in death by both of his parents.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 22, 2017 at Davidson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Topeka Cemetery. Rosary will be recited beginning at 5:30 pm on Thursday evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the rosary from 6-7 pm.
