Donald E. "Gene" McCord, 81, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022 at the Midland Hospice House.
Gene was born January 12, 1941, the son of Ronald and Alta (Howell) McCord.
Gene spent most of his childhood in Chanute, Kansas and moved to Topeka while in high school and graduated from Topeka High. He worked as a mechanic for Laird Noller Ford for many years. In 1981 he enlisted in the Air National Guard as a mechanic and retired after 20 years in 2001.
After retirement, he still enjoyed working on cars and anything that didn't run. You could always see him working in his yard.
Gene married Virginia "Ginny" McCaffrey in 1975, she survives; also his daughter DeAnn (Peter) Leslie and one granddaughter, Lauren, both of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; sister, Donna Bunger; and brother-in-law, Tom Bunger.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, 11:00 am at the Parker-Price Reception Center, 1940 NW Central Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66608.
Inurnment will take place at 2:00 pm in the West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Helping Hands Humane Society or to Midland Hospice Care.
