Donald D. Malloy

Donald D. “Don” Malloy, passed away on March 23, 2023 at the age of 88, in Topeka, KS.  His battle with serious medical issues in his last days showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile.

Don was born in Wamego, KS on February 12, 1935, and was raised in Onaga, KS.  He served in the United States Army from 1958 – 1960.  In 1961 Don joined the labor union in Manhattan, KS where he worked at the missile base in Chapman, KS, and later became the Union Stuart at the new Wamego High School project.  Don’s career path as a heavy equipment operator gave him the opportunity to be involved in several projects, which he was very proud of.  Throughout the years he was involved in the building of Perry Dam, Clinton Dam, LaCygne Power Plant, Hillsdale Dam, St. Mary’s Power Plant, Harrah’s Casino, as well as many other projects.

Don was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 101 and the American Legion.

Don was a kind and caring man who would give you the shirt off his back.  He was pure fun to be around, had a contagious laugh and was a little on the ornery side.  He loved having fun and enjoyed taking Mary dancing.

Don is survived by his companion of 23 years, Mary Graybeal, several step-children, step-grandchildren and his brother Duane Malloy.  He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lester Balen Malloy and Iona Morrison Malloy, his twin sister Donna Jean Malloy Teske and his wife, Helen Malloy.

A private family service will be held at Davidson Funeral Home, followed later by a private burial at the Onaga Cemetery in Onaga, KS.
