Donald Long
Don's Carz
Don Long (73) of "Don's Carz" succumbed to his battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 27th,. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy (Martin); daughter, Susan; brother Tony (Gloria), sister-in-law Paula, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and family. He is preceded in death by his son Scott, mother Martha, father Donald, and brother Roger.
Don graduated from Meriden High School in 1965. He graduated Kansas State University, College of Engineering in 1971, and took a mechanical engineering job in the suburbs of Chicago. He continued that employment where he obtained several patents, and advanced up to supervisor of his own engineering group. After 13 years, and accumulating rental properties on the side, he left that employment to run and operate his own rental business.
Returning home to Topeka, he continued his career by starting Don's Carz in North Topeka. He was a proud member of the community for over 20 years, working his way into and through retirement. He was always happiest at work. He enjoyed meeting new people and helping them find the right deal for them. He enjoyed spending time with family and any new person he met became his friend.
His motto in life was "live life in such a way that you could hold your head high, be honest, and go to sleep at night, knowing you had always done right be anyone you met."
Honoring Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. Celebration will be held at a later date. There will be no services at this time.
Memorial contributions may be made to Susan Long in care of the funeral home, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608 to be donated to Midland Hospice Care. "Words can never describe how wonderful Midland has been with us during dad's transition." - Susan Long
