Donald James DeForest

Donald James DeForest, 65, Topeka, died Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was born at Lebo, the son of Harry Lee and L. Evelyn (Bauer) DeForest.

Don graduated from Highland Park High School in 1970, where he excelled in sports. He worked at Goodyear, Neighbors Construction / Century Homes, and Wolf Construction. He was a member of the Carpenters' Local and the Pope & Young Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will forever be remembered a great father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

Surviving are two sons: Robert F. DeForest of Lawrence and Brian J. DeForest (Manui) of Rainier, WA; his mother: L. Evelyn Lawless of Topeka; siblings: Michael DeForest (Cheryl) of Tecumseh, Dale L. "Buzz" DeForest (Gayla) of Tecumseh, Debra J. Proctor (David) of Auburn, and Dennis E. DeForest (Debbie) of Topeka; and two grandsons: Spencer J. DeForest and Zachary R. DeForest both of Lawrence.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Graveside services will be at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, at Lincoln Cemetery, Lebo.

Don will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Monday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
