OBITUARY: Donald Glen Ostrander
Donald Glen Ostrander, 90, Topeka, died at his daughter's home on Tues., July 19, 2011. He was born Jan. 8, 1921, on the family farm north of Elmont, where he grew up. Don was one of 12 children born to Edward and Blanche (Jackson) Ostrander. He was married to Anne G. Dister on July 14, 1939, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2003. Surviving are two children, a daughter: Barbra Hillmer Shelton (Billy) of Topeka; a son: Danny G. Ostrander (Belinda) of Topeka; a sister: Marie Rogers of Topeka; 3 brothers: Eugene Ostrander and Charlie Ostrander both of Topeka, and Ivan Ostrander of Overbrook; 5 grandchildren: Shawn A. Ashinhurst (Kreig), Shane A. Hillmer (Terri), Monica L. Temple (Brian), Darcie S. Norman (Brian), and Rachel L. Holthaus (Wade), all of Topeka; 12 great-grandchildren: Alan, Brian, Zachary, Hunter, Sydney, Drew, Abbey, Brooke, Kylie, Cameron, Emma, and Molly; and a great-great-granddaughter: Khloe. Don was a manager of service stations for 23 years, then worked as a salesman for refining companies. Then he purchased and operated Modern Mobile Home Sales and Park, then Addo Mini Storage before retiring. He was a former member and officer of the mobile home association. Don was a member of Fellowship Bible Church and Mayetta Lodge # 393, AF & AM. He was a founding member and officer of Moose Lodge # 555 and a former member of Arab Shrine and long-time member of Seaman Congregational Church. Don was a hard worker and a fun and loving father and grandfather, very devoted to his family and had many friends and interests such as fishing, boating, camping, and gardening. Our Dad and Granddad will be missed very much by many. Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM, Mon., July 25, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Interment of cremains will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family of Barbra Shelton would like to thank Midland Hospice for all of their loving care and support while Don was in their home, "without them the family would not have been able to provide home care."
