Donald F. "Fred" Flowers
Donald F. "Fred" Flowers,75, Topeka, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was born Oct. 2, 1928, at Hoyt, the son of Ress T. and Nettie B. Michael Flowers. He lived in Topeka most of his life. He was a carman with Union Pacific Railroad for 46 years. He served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of American Legion Post 400. He married Dorothy J. Stehlin on March 7, 1950, in Topeka. She died Dec. 21, 1996. In addition to his wife, Dorothy J. Flowers, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald F. Flowers II; and a grandson, Jacob Manning . Surviving are a daughter, Deanna L. VanVleck, Houston; a son, Walter A. Flowers, Topeka, a son, Dale A. Flowers, Topeka; a daughter, E.B. Flowers, Topeka; a son, Roy L. Flowers, Topeka; three brothers, Charles and Gerald Flowers, Wichita, and William Flowers, Topeka; a sister, Velda Lake, Topeka; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Park er-Price Chapel. Burial will be at Rochester Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 400. Donald Flowers will lie in state after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell - Gabel, Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House, Bldg.
