Donald Charles Drane, 69, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Midland Care Connection, Topeka.
He was born July 14, 1940 in Topeka, the son of Oscar and Harriet Cummings Drane. They preceded him in death.
Don attended Holliday Jr. High (class of 56), Seaman and Topeka High Schools.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sunnadin.
On August 17, 1962 he married Sharrell Bennett in Topeka.
Don was a Mechanic-Carpenter for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka, retiring after 36 years with the company.
He was a member of; the Steelworkers Local 307, Topeka Lodge #17, York Rite, Goodyear Retirees Club, Goodyear Golf League, and Second Presbyterian Church where he served as Trustee and Elder. He was also a member of the Mariners in Mission. Don enjoyed golfing, woodworking and his family. He loved being a Winter-Texan, and traveling in the RV.
He is survived by: his wife Sharrell; children, Donald Kraig Drane (Leana), Korri Chamberlain (Scott); and grandchildren Amber and Caleb Drane, Rebecka and Darian Chamberlain, plus a coming grandson, Cooper Charles Chamberlain. He was a positive influence on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Parker- Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. Don will lie in repose after noon on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
