Donald Eugene Dechand, 76, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023.
He was born December 21, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Albert and Helen Dechand. He was a graduate of Hayden High School. He proudly served in the United States Army.
Don was employed as a journeyman sheet metal worker until retiring.
He leaves behind his lifelong love, Rose Dechand (Desch); five children: David Dechand (Stacey), Jeff Dechand, Samantha Braswell (George), Rachel Daugherty (Shane), Ryan Dechand; and 8 grandchildren, Alicia, Briar, Janelle, Sammie, MaKenna, Reilyn, Payton and Killian, and 2 great-grandchildren, Jett and Nova. His surviving siblings are Mary Donahy, Edward Dechand, Albert Dechand Jr., and Dianne Dechand.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Helen Dechand, sister Delores Kramer, and brother Daniel Dechand.
Don enjoyed fishing, growing black raspberries and making jelly, and tinkering in the garage. He loved to raise show pigeons and cared for a variety of animals including rabbits, goats, and chickens. He was a wonderful father and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 227 SW Van Buren St., Topeka, KS. Inurnment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
