Don Davis Mew, Sr.
Don Davis Mew, Sr., 89, Topeka, died Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Lexington Park Nursing Center, Topeka. He was born June 21, 1927, at Harrisonville, MO, the son of Charles Athel and Thelma Eleanor (Davis) Mew.
Don graduated from high school in Kansas City, MO. He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. Don retired from the Santa Fe Shops in Topeka.
Don was married to Betty Jane Conty on April 10, 1948, in LaJunta, CO. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three children: Don Davis Mew, Jr., Tracey Joseph Mew, and Elizabeth Lynn Mew; his step-father: Leonard Burnett; and a brother: Bobby Burnett.
Surviving are two daughters: Georgia E. Thompson (Mark) of LaJunta, CO and Rebecca C. "Becky" Honaker (Paul) of Topeka; a sister: Georgia Eleanor Ford (Jay) of Tequesta, FL; ten grandchildren: Staci Jo Thompson, Sean David Thompson (Miki), David Michael Mew Thompson, Jessica Honaker Barber, Gabriel Paul Honaker (Andrea), Lauren Eleana Honaker-Hunter ( Ian), Laura Camille Bryan, Kerye Ann Jackson, Shelly Marie Hendrix, and Heather Jane Hendrix; nineteen great-grandchildren; and close friend: Dee Renyer of Topeka, KS.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Don will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
Colorado arrangements are entrusted to the Peacock-Larsen Funeral home, 401 Raton Avenue, LaJunta, CO, where the family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Fairview Cemetery, LaJunta, CO.
