Dexter Hilton Claspill

Dexter Hilton Claspill, 75, Tecumseh, KS, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Manor Care, Topeka, KS. He was born April 14, 1939, in Fort Scott, KS, the son of Isaac Freland and Thelma Elizabeth (Shinn) Claspill.

He was reared at Fort Scott and graduated from Fort Scott High School.

Dexter was married to Carolyn Nadine Hawkins on April 7, 1958. They were married for over 51 years before she preceded him in death on June 22, 2009.

He was a control mechanic at DuPont. Dexter served as a union steward at Flexel. He retired from DuPont/Flexel after 38 years of service. He later worked at Harrah's Prairie Band Casino until 2004.

Dexter was an avid outdoorsman. He always made time to take his children and brothers fishing, hunting, skiing, and camping. He was a member of the Shawnee Lake Ski Club, The Archery Club, and Topeka Bowhunters Club.

Surviving are a daughter: Cheryl Foss of Omaha, NE; a son: Dexter Hilton Claspill II (Wilma) of Tecumseh, KS; brothers: Larry Claspill (Julie) of Ivins, Utah, Steve Claspill of Auburn, KS, and Tim Claspill (Donna) of Topeka; an adopted sister: Christine Claspill of Topeka; four grandchildren: Sarah Hodgson (Patrick) of St. George, KS, Troy Claspill of Topeka, Tony Wilson of Topeka, and Nick Claspill of Topeka; and great-grandchildren: Gavin, Gwendolynne, and Gabriel Hodgson, Aaliyah, Destiny, Lilly, and Carolyn Claspill, Alyssa Wilson, Elizabeth Kersey, Nicholas Claspill, Jr., and another due in February, 2015.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, September 15, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Road, Topeka, KS.

Dexter will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Sunday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
