DeWayne La Vern Hicks

DeWayne La Vern Hicks, 65, Alma, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at his home. He worked for Shawnee County Refuge Department for more than 20 years. He was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Topeka, the son of George Andrew and Mable Louise Marsh Hicks. He attended Topeka High School. Mr. Hicks served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel s Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by a U.S. Army detail from Fort Riley. Mr. Hicks will lie in state after noon Sunday at the funeral chapel, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1033 S.W. Gage, Topeka, 66604.
