DeVota Elizabeth Walters

CARBONDALE - DeVota Elizabeth Walters, 88, Carbondale, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka. She was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Topeka, the daughter of William and Ida Isabel Lahman Sherman. She graduated from Topeka High School. She had lived in the Carbondale area since 1971. She worked for Duckwalls for more than 20 years. She was a member of Central Park Christian Church and Oakland Rebekah Lodge No. 616. She was a former member of Eagles Lodge Auxiliary. She married Chester B. Walters on Nov. 12, 1940, in Topeka. He died January 1984. Survivors include Sharon L. Diaz, Carbondale, and Karen S. Flud, Mannford, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rochester Cemetery. Mrs. Walters will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to th e American Cancer Society, 1315 S.W.
