Dennis Dean Barnes, 81, of Topeka, passed away on November 15, 2020.
He was born on December 2, 1938 in Topeka, KS, the son of Omer and Pauline (Gilmer) Barnes. He attended and graduated from Seaman High School, and later attended art classes at KU.
On June 10, 1966, Dennis married the love of his life, Katherine Campbell in Topeka.
Dennis worked at his father's grocery store Barnes Market, and later worked at Dibbles Market as a produce manager for 20 years. He retired from Falley's Market as a Butcher after almost 20 years and was a member of the Butcher's Union.
After retiring Dennis stayed busy working around the house, spending time with his grandkids, going to the casino, and working part-time. He enjoyed taking yearly vacations in Branson, MO, going to Silver Dollar City and watching country music shows.
Dennis was also very artistic and creative. He always had a love for cars; he remodeled numerous varieties through the years – Mustangs, El Caminos, 57 Chevy, and more. He had a love for animals, cats, dogs, and lots of chickens. Dennis was a jokester and will be remembered for his sense of humor.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Katherine E. Barnes; children, Connie Shaw, Cyndi (Alan) McFarland, Chris (Karen) Hutton, Rick (Kim) Barnes, Brenda (Lewis Beck II) Barnes and Dennis Scott (Tina) Barnes; grandchildren, Steve, Val, Jeanna, Mike, Trent, Travis, Gabe, Joseph, Amanda, Brandy, Jamie, Whitney, Brady, and Steve; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Delores (Keith) Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Ed Shaw; and Joan Barnes.
An in-state will be from 3:00-5:00pm, Thursday, November 19th, with a visitation to follow from 5:00-6:00pm at Parker-Price Funeral Home. Due to restrictions the funeral service will be private.
