Delores E. Wakeman

Delores Wakeman, 87, of Topeka, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022.

She was born October 20, 1935, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Kenneth and Ruth (Reedy) Rider. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1953. Delores worked at KPL following high school as an Administrative Assistant.

Delores married Charles W. Wakeman on April 9, 1955 in Topeka, Kansas. They welcomed three children to their union in marriage, Cynthia, Diana and David.

After taking time to raise her family, she went back to work for USD 501 as an Office Manager and retired after more than 20 years of service.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, creating silk flower arrangements and doing crossword puzzles. Delores enjoyed music. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout as a child and eventually became the leader of her daughters Girl Scout Troop.

Her family was her primary focus her entire life. She loved watching the grandchildren's sporting and musical events.

Survivors include her children, Cindy (Larry) Vossen, Diana (Eric) Bernauer and David (Amy) Wakeman; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; her parents and two sisters, Judy Sims and Marilyn Slawson.

Her family will greet friends and family from 10:00am-12:00pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66604. A graveside service will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Elara Hospice, 901 NE River Road, Ste 101, Topeka, KS 66616.
