Della Marie Marlow, 87, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, Oct 19, 2012.
She was born Della Marie Stockwell, on August 3, 1925, in Wagner, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Minnie and James Stockwell. Mrs. Marlow was employed by Crown Drug, of Topeka, as a soda fountain clerk and enjoyed the interaction with her customers very much.
She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church, past treasurer of Trinity Baptist Church, former Brownie leader and Cub Scout den mother, active in the PTA at her children's school, served as an officer in both the Army Mothers and War Dad's organizations, volunteered for the VA Hospital, helped out with Meals on Wheels, housekeeper to many lucky Topekan's, a dedicated stay at home mom, and was an expert on mail order gifts for family and friends/strangers alike.
She had a strong sense of family and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would light up when talking about them or getting to visit them.
She never learned to drive but was proficient in using the bus system to get her to her job at the drug store and to her housekeeping duties.
She was married to Mosie Harvey Marlow, who preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2012.
Other survivors include children, Duane (Sharon) Marlow, Highland, CA, David (Marla) Marlow, Topeka, James Marlow, Topeka, Jeanie (Dale) Logemann, Bancroft, NE, Mary Grossenkemper, Goodyear, AZ, and Sarah Cottrell, Lawrence, KS; 14 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy Stockwell, Paul Stockwell, James Stockwell, George Stockwell, and sisters Vinnie Bulmer, Lilli Lazor, and Irene Douglas. Her brother Hiram Stockwell, and sister, Sadie Biggart survive.
Mrs. Marlow was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Highland Park Baptist Church at 820 SE 29th St., Topeka, KS 66605. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the ceremony. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Park Baptist Church or to the American Heart Association.
