Delene Ruth Sherretts, 80, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010.
She was born October 20, 1930 in Wakarusa, KS, the daughter of Clarence and Faye (Morris) Redenbaugh. She resided in Meriden most of her life, before moving to Topeka in 1989. She was employed by the State of Kansas retiring after 13 years of service.
She was a 50 year member of Meriden Community Church. She was a lifetime active member of the Girl Scouts of America, serving as Troop Leader and Cookie Cupboard for ten years in the Topeka area. Her hobbies included woodcarving, and crocheting.
Delene married Louis R. Sherretts on September 18, 1949. He survives. Other survivors include three children, Shirley Ann Sherretts, Topeka, Rick (Debbie) Sherretts, Leavenworth, KS and Kimberley Sherretts, Topeka; twin grandchildren, Marcus and Amanda Sherretts; and a great-granddaughter, Maddy Sherretts. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Mrs. Sherretts will lie in state after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Meriden Community Church, 200 Dawson St., Meriden, KS 66512 or to Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Rd., Topeka, KS 66607.
