OBITUARY: Delbert Eugene Haid
Delbert Eugene Haid, 76, Topeka, passed away Dec. 30, 2009, at Topeka Community Healthcare Center. Born Feb. 10, 1933, in Wamego. KS, he was a son of the late John Wesley and Emily Martha Fields Haid. He served as a cook on the USS Lexington "The Blue Ghost" in the US Navy retiring after 28 years. He received a Korean Service Medal and China Service Medal. Then he worked for the State of Kansas for 20 years and also with the Fleet Reserve Unit. His memberships included: Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion; Philip Billard Post # 1650, V.F.W.; and Moose Lodge # 555, all of Topeka. On Jan. 16, 1959, he married Frances Bard Haid. She passed away Oct. 17, 2000. Two brothers: John and Ronald, also preceded him in death. Survivors include brothers: Elton, Lawrence, KS, Glenn, Meriden, KS, Clyde, Topeka; sisters: Edna DeMotte, Bonner Springs, KS, Elsie Kopp, Donna Moore, both of Topeka; sister-in-law: Johanna Brinkman, Lancaster, PA, several nieces and nephews. Graveside service was 2 PM, Tues, Jan. 5, 2010, Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, PA. Memorials to Topeka Moose Lodge # 555, 1901 N Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.
