Deborah Harris

Deborah (Debbie) R. Harris, 70, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 8 ^th , 2023 at Midland Hospice House after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Debbie was born on April 20 ^th , 1952 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Nelson and Fern Henderson Spaulding. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1970. She married Gary S. Hug on October 16, 1970 in Topeka, Kansas and was later divorced. She then married Arden Haldeman and they divorced in 1997. She then married her third husband, Michael Harris, they divorced in 2004. She mostly worked various administrative/clerical jobs with the exception of about 10 years when she operated a daycare out of her home. Most recently, she was working as a Land Survey Coordinator for the Kansas State Historical Society. She is a former member of the Oakland Christian Church, the Topeka Round-up Club, and the Shawnee County Teachers Recreation Club. Since she was a child, she had a great love for horses and always said the happiest time of her life was when she owned horses. Debbie was always up for a good card game with family on Friday nights where everyone would enjoy her well known infectious laugh, her playful sense of humor, and delicious baked goods. She loved baking goods for others, history, and her dachshunds but it was her family that she loved the most and was an avid genealogist.

She was preceded in death by her brother Nelson L. Spaulding in 2006, mother Fern Spaulding in 2015, and her father Nelson S. Spaulding in 2020. She is survived by her two daughters, Wendy and Courtney Hug, both of Topeka; two grandchildren, Dawna and Dakota Harriman, also of Topeka.

Funeral services will be Saturday February 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with a visitation Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Avenue, Topeka. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Deborah's funeral will be lived streamed here.
