OBITUARY: David Vern Pence, Jr.
David Vern Pence, Jr., 88, Topeka, died Fri., April 14, 2006, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. He was born March 20, 1918 at Silver Lake, the son of Grace Myrtle (Frantz) Pence and David Vern Pence, Sr.
Mr. Pence was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and a custodian for U.S.D. # 501 before retiring. He was a member of the Elmont United Methodist Church.
On July 4, 1942, he was married to Virginia Lee Wilhite at Elmont. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2002.
Surviving are 3 sons: Lyle, Gary, and Gerald Pence all of Topeka; a sister: Beth Cook of Topeka; a brother: Harry Pence of Kansas City, MO; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tues., April 18, 2006, at Prairie Home Cemetery, N.W. 35th & Menoken Road. Military honors will be conducted by a Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail.
Mr. Pence will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Monday, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
