David Mons Benson, 79, died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer, on August 17, 2012 in Topeka, KS. He was born September 3, 1932 in Ann Arbor, MI.
Dave is survived by his wife Luray, children Kristine Gamblin, Cynthia and her husband Don Snoddy, Diana (DeeDee) and her husband Robert Forshee and Jonathan Benson; grandchildren James, Thomas, and Jason; great-grandchildren Jayme-Nicole, Taylor, Jackson, Ava and Jacob; brother Frank, brother-in-law Robert and his wife Barbara Holsted, and his loving dog Peanut. Dave will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
Dave began his career with Western Electric Telephone Company at the young age of 18 in Boise, ID, married Luray at 19 and moved to many beautiful states in our country while working his way up through the company. He retired several times because he just was not good at sitting around. His love of the outdoors carried through to his family. Dave loved his garden, boating, fishing and hunting, along with reprogramming every computer he could get his hands on. He was a member of Lyndon Masonic Lodge, holding the office of Secretary for several years. He loved his church St. Thomas Episcopal in Holton, KS, and his friends there, and served as treasurer for several years. David and Luray celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 10th.
A memorial service will be held at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in Topeka at 10:00 a.m. on August 21, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Hospice, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would especially like to thank Jana, John and Jay of Grace.
