David Lee Leighty, 77, of Topeka, died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at McCrites Plaza.
Mr. Leighty was the last of six children born to Robert Edward and Stella Elizabeth Jones Leighty on the 3rd of March 1930 in Osage City, Kansas.
He attended schools in Osage City, Lawrence and Topeka graduating from Topeka High in 1948. He also attended Washburn University.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Hospitalman Second Class.
He worked in the construction industry 10 years and retired after 32 years of employment with the Santa Fe Railroad. He was co-owner/operator of Yesteryear Antiques of Topeka and Buffalo during the 1970's.
He was a former member of the Central Church of Christ and Capitol Post #1 of the American Legion as well as several other civic organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one sister, Patricia A. Davis of Osage City, 2 nieces and 13 nephews.
Graveside services will be held 10:00am, Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the American Osage City Cemetery in Osage City, Kansas. Mr. Leighty will lie in state from 10:00am until 7:00pm Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 N.W.
