Daryl H. Davis, 85, Topeka, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Davis was a retired meat cutter. He worked at A & P and Dibbles Grocery Stores. He managed the meat market at Dibbles Elmhurst.
He was born October 21, 1924 at Havensville, KS the son of James H. and Mattie M. Davis.
Immediately following graduation from Havensville High School Mr. Davis joined the Navy. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. Following discharge from the Navy he worked for a time as a coast surveyor.
Daryl was a 58 year member of Onaga Lodge #188 A. F. & A. M. He was a longtime member of the American Legion currently, a member of Post #333, Havensville, Kansas. Daryl was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butchers Workmen of North America, AFL-CIO since September 1958.
He married Wanda L. Smith Davis, December 31, 1953 at Natchez, MS. She preceded him in death December 14, 1996. Survivors include a son Philip Davis, Boyce, LA; a daughter, Roni Davis-Watson, Topeka, KS; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry Davis. His brother Gayle R. Davis preceded him in death.
Mr. Davis will lie in state from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday August 23, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel. A funeral ceremony will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by burial in the Havensville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion Post #333, Havensville, KS.
