Darlene L. DeHart, 88, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 Midland Hospice House.
She was born October 29, 1924, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Clifford P. and Martha V. (Ward) Highfill.
Darlene was employed by Hallmark Cards for 8 years, and later for Josten's Printing for 23 years, retiring in 1985. After her husband's death, she worked for Southwest Publishing for 5 years.
Mrs. DeHart was a member of Northland Christian Church.
Darlene married Virgil Floyd DeHart on April 12, 1941 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Ann (Rich) Schiefelbein and Dee Thompson, both of Topeka; a son, Arthur F. DeHart, Sr., Greenleaf, KS; a son-in-law, Richard Gooden, Topeka; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Shirley Gooden, a granddaughter, Jennifer Thompson, three sisters, Verna Roberts, Grace Beltz and Jean Query and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn A. DeHart.
Darlene enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening and playing bingo.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery. Darlene will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
