Darell Wayne Kern, 90, of Mayetta, Ks. November 11, 1933-June 14, 2024.
An irreplaceable man. If you had the chance to meet him, & the great opportunity to know him, you would know he was “one of a kind”.
He was born November 11, 1933, in Mayetta, Kansas, the son of Everett and Mary “Lucy” (Hunter) Kern.
He graduated from Mayetta High School.
Darell served in the U.S. Army & spent time in Korea.
He grew up in Jackson County & spent a full life there.
A lifelong farmer, from crops to cattle, and all the hay & livestock in between. He knew all about hard work & manual labor.
Summers of homemade ice cream & salted watermelon, he truly enjoyed the simple life.
He was a great outdoorsman. Fishing, Hunting & trapping, cutting his own firewood, time in the timber is where he loved to be! Too many coon hunts to count, & the sound of his coondogs running & treeing a raccoon was music to his ears.
Darell married Carol “Sally” Jacobson on January 9th, 1964 & they recently celebrated 60 years together.
They made a great team & enjoyed their beloved dogs, Okie & Jack. Took many trips & cherished time with their kids & grandkids.
Family includes his wife, Carol “Sally” Kern; 3 children, Susan Kern, Mark Kern, and Michael Kern.
Papa couldn’t be more proud of his grandchildren & loved every visit: Daryl Schmidt, Emilee Bush, Mirisa Wyss, Megan Kern (deceased), Ashley McCune, Luke McCune, Haylee Kern, Jake McCune, Brady Kern & Noelle McCune. Great Grandchildren: Bentley Wyss, Aurora Overby & Waylon Schmidt.
Cremation is planned. Private burial will take place at Mayetta Cemetery in Mayetta, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayetta Methodist Church.
