Damon Hupp
Damon Dale Hupp, 90, longtime Topeka resident, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 15, 2014. With his wife, Rosella, of 70 years, by his side, he passed away at his country home of 46 years.
Damon had been a faithful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, church and business leader.
He was born November 1, 1923, in Richland, Kansas to Glen and Gladys Baxley Hupp. Growing up on the farm in Osage County, he learned a strong work ethic. He moved to Topeka as a junior in high school in 1940. Damon was an avid baseball player from youth to Topeka High School varsity to adult leagues. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1942, and also attended Dodds Business School.
Damon served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre in WWII. He married Rosella Michelson on October 31, 1943, in Topeka.
In Topeka, Damon was an avid businessman. He co-founded Capitol City Blue Print (Capitol City Office Products) in 1946, Copy Center of Topeka, and various other businesses. He was passionate about helping youth, serving on the Topeka Youth for Christ board for over 20 years and helped found O'Connell Youth Ranch.
He was also co-founder of the Topeka Chapter of Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship in 1957, and served faithfully at his local churches, including Community Church. He was fun-loving and always cared for the underdog.
With his wife, Damon shared a great love for Christian missions, including visiting nine or more mission fields from Argentina to the China Great Wall.
Damon was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sister, Elinor Hahn, and brothers, Chalis and Tom.
Damon loved and served his family greatly including his wife, Rosella; his son, David (Mary); grandchildren Jonathan (Reagan) Hupp, Rebecca (Patrick) Alcala, Paul (Debbie) Hupp, Elisabeth (Yiannis) Souldatou, and David (Amy) Shepherd; 16 great-grandchildren; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Community Church. Interment in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth, Topeka. Damon will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Monday, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
