Creed B. Hahn, 87, of Lakin, formerly of Topeka, passed away, Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the Kearny County Hospital, Lakin, KS. Mr. Hahn and his wife resided in Topeka over 50 years until moving to Lakin in 2005 to be near family.
He was born November 24, 1918 at Del Rio, TN the son of James and Bertha Stokley Hahn. He was a retired contractor and carpenter. He graduated from Del Rio High School in 1937 and worked as a woodsman and carpenters apprentice until joining the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served his country in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
He belonged to Highland Heights Christian Church, Carpenters Local #1445, and the Masonic Lodge. For many years he was an active member of Highland Park Christian Church serving in many capacities including deacon and chairman of the board.
On May 31, 1947, he married Avis Denton at Washington, D.C. She survives. Other survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Max (Gayle) Wells, Austin, TX, and David and Sharon Neal, Lakin, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hahn will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. that evening.
