OBITUARY: Courtney Paige Harrop
Courtney Paige Harrop, 16, Topeka, died Mon., Sept. 27, 2010, in an automobile accident on K-4 northeast of Topeka while en-route to volunteer at Stone Ridge Therapeutic Ranch to help disabled children horseback ride. She was born Dec. 29, 1993, in Topeka. Courtney was a junior at Seaman High School where she was in color guard, shot put & discus, FCCLA, band, and softball. For eight years she was in the Awanas Program at Bethel Baptist Church, Topeka, and was baptized at Jefferson Assembly of God Church, Meriden. She had volunteered in New Orleans for 3 years and was a volunteer at Helping Hands Humane Society. Surviving are her mother and step-father: Leia and Ian Leach of the home; a brother: James Leach of the home; her father: Harold M. Richey III of Topeka; grandparents: Ken and Debi Harrop of Hoyt, and Merlin and Susan Nelson of Mayetta, Larry Leach of Topeka, and Colleen Leach of Topeka; great-grandmother: Barbara Smith of Bend, OR; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Sat., Oct. 2, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Private interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Richland. Courtney will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. There will be a memorial service at 3:30 PM, Wed.
