Longtime cattle producer, C. Robert "Bob" Dennon, 80, of rural Tecumseh Township, passed away, Friday, February 8, 2008.
The son of Clyde and Bess (Kreipe) Dennon, Bob was born March 10, 1927 on his parent's farm in Shawnee County. He attended Oak Grove Elementary School, Hayden (formerly Capitol Catholic) High School and then graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Bob worked at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico where he assisted Clyde Tombaugh in developing the Schmidt Camera. Later he worked at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. WorthTexas with the development of the B-58 Hustler Aircraft.
In 1958 he married Carolyn Crouch of Ft. Worth, Texas. They moved to his family home in Kansas to raise a family and to farm. Bob raised prizewinning registered Angus and Simmental Cattle. He retired from KDHE in the early 1990's.
Survivors include his wife, four sons, one daughter, three grandchildren and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother.
Bob was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a number of Cattle Associations. He was devoted to his family and beloved in return.
The family will greet friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by inurnment services at St. Peter's Cemetery, located in Big Springs, KS.
