Clyde Clarence Stadel

November 20, 1933 — February 18, 2016

Clyde C. Stadel, 83, passed away February 18, 2016. Born January 20, 1933 in Christ Hospital, Topeka, KS, he was the third child of Clarence Argyle Stadel and Maye Elizabeth Davis Stadel. Raised on a farm NE of Hoyt, KS, Clyde graduated from Hoyt HS in 1950 and then attended Kansas State University.

In 1952, he married Joan Albright, which produced three children, they divorced in 1965.

Clyde joined the Topeka Fire Department in 1954 and retired as a Captain in 1983.

In 1973, Clyde married Mary Jo Ashinhurst.

Always an avid traveler, his favorite activity was criss-crossing and exploring the North American Continent, Europe and Hawaiian Islands with his children and grandchildren. Time spent with family was Clyde's most cherished possession.

Upon retirement Clyde and Mary became snowbirds wintering in Tucson. Very early retirement years they sold wooden Indians, Native American jewelry and wagons. Clyde eventually switched to selling, repairing, installing and dismantling water pumping windmills and hand pumps. Known as one of the world's foremost windmill experts; he attended the International Windmillers' Trade Fair each year.

Clyde was a member of the Arab Shrine, Moose Lodge, Elks, American Legion and Grace Episcopal Church.

Clyde is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Johnnie) Koger, Topeka, KS, son, Mark (Diana) Stadel, Basehor, KS and daughter, Jill (Rick) Yewell; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister, Joan Coffee, Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Jo and brother, DuWayne Stadel, Hoyt, KS.

Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends in a celebration of Clyde's life at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS, Monday, February 22, 4:00 - 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to the organization of the donor's choice.
