Clifford Clayton Thigpen, 79, Topeka, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at a local care home.
Born August 31, 1926 in Bell, Louisiana the son of Joseph Newton and Jane Victoria Alexandria Thigpen. He was the youngest of thirteen children. He attended school in Reeves, Louisiana.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and held the position of Gunner's Mate. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
Cliff was shop foreman for Brackett, Inc., an accomplished machinist for over 20 years. After retiring from Brackett he owned and operated Thigpen Hauling for several years in Topeka.
His passions were hunting, fishing, gardening, horses and his grandkids.
Cliff married Mary Louise Hillebert in 1948. She preceded him in death on October 1, 1975. He married Helen Pauline Rayls on June 30, 1977. She survives. Other survivors include two sons; Wayne and Michael Thigpen and daughter, Linda Thigpen-May; step-sons, James and Gregory Addington and step-daughter, Christie Hatch; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Brown and Frances Fontnot, and brother, Newton Thigpen.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel in North Topeka. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery. Mr. Thigpen will lie in state at funeral home after 2:00 P.M. on Friday with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
