Clena Darlene (Parsons) Hales, 87, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 following an extended illness.
She was born March 4, 1935 in Burlingame, KS to Lois V. (Adolph) and Andrew J. Parsons. She graduated from Burlingame High School and attended Business School in Topeka.
Clena was employed with Santa Fe Railroad (later Burlington Northern Santa Fe) as a switchboard operator until the switchboard was phased out, then she held several Clerk positions before retiring with over 40 years of service. She left the Railroad for a few years to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at Paris Island, SC.
Clena and Glenn Hales married in June 1958 and were married 33 years before his passing on September 11, 1991.
She is survived by children, Pamela (Jim) McConnaughey, Andrew (Tammy) Hales, Linda Veil; grandchildren, Dr. Jamie (Chad) Jacobsen, Mandy (V.J.) Saxton, Chelsea (Cody) Stefek and Emily (Ryan) Young, Kim Veil, Billy Veil, Heidi (Frank) Veil, and Chris Burnett; great-grandchildren, Madi, Jace, Penelope, Jasper, Liam, Claire, and 3 Veil great-grandchildren; sister, Dee (Donald) Morgan; sister-in-law, Melody Parsons; and numerous extended family.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Merrill Parsons and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Parsons: brothers, Willis and Ray Parsons; and daughter, Tonya Burnett.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the Burlingame Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2022 at the Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence.
