Clarence D. "Bill" Jones, 79, passed away Monday December 5, at Midland Hospice. He was born on December 24, 1925 at Mayetta, the son of Harvey and Bessie May Gurtler Jones. Bill graduated from Mayetta High School. After graduation Bill served in the Navy as a cook on a troop train. Upon returning from the service, he married his high school sweetheart Reta June Douglass May 18, 1947 at Denison. The couple resided in Topeka . Bill was a truck driver, and drove for Leonard Brothers Truckline for 40 years. Bill, Reta June, and their daughter, Reta Lynne , made their home in North Topeka. During his life, Bill was a good husband, father, friend, and cook. Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Frank "Pete" Jones, Howard Jones, and by his wife of 48 years, Reta June.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Reta Lynne Jones of Topeka, a brother-in-law, Bill (Ellie) Douglass, Lincoln, NE, and sister-in-laws; Wilma Jones, of Texas and Rosa Douglass, of Arizona. Bill is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel. Inurnment will be at Westlawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
