Clara Rose Ekart-Martin
Clara Rose Ekart-Martin, 100, Topeka, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Rolling Hills Health Center in Topeka. She was born March 17, 1904, in Myers Valley, to Alois and Rose Jane Dunn Umscheid. She moved to California from Silver Lake in 1942. Mrs. Ekart-Martin was manager in the blind concession stand at the Federal Court House in Los Angeles for 22 years. She returned to Silver Lake in 1992 to live with her daughter. She loved animals and always had many dogs. She married Edward W. Ekart on Nov. 17, 1920, in Flush. He died in February of 1947. She later married Charles Martin on Feb. 2, 1957. He died in March of 1984. Mrs. Ekart-Martin also was preceded in death by a daughter, Irene Roedieger, in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Jean Viergever, Topeka, and Betty Williams, Mesquite, Nev.; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery in Dover. Mrs. Martin will lie in state at the funeral chapel from 2 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Silver Lake Senior Citizens, P.O.
