Cindy Lee Barney

Cindy Lee Barney, born on September 27, 1954, in Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. She lived a life full of vigor and honesty, where she held nothing back and always told it like it was.

Cindy made significant contributions to her community through her dedicated career in the Human Resource Department at Colmery-O'Neil Veterans' Administration Medical Center, where she served with commitment and compassion. Her educational journey began at Topeka West High School, and she furthered her knowledge and skills at CATS VoTech after graduation.

Outside of her professional achievements, Cindy cherished her time spent immersed in nature, loving to be outside where she could cultivate her garden with an array of vegetables and flowers. She had a deep appreciation for auctions, where she often found treasures that brought her joy.

Cindy’s heart belonged to her family, particularly her three beloved sons: Michael Barney, Lewis Barney, and her late son, Daniel Barney. Her bond with them was evident in her nurturing spirit and unwavering support. She also shared treasured moments with her sister, Connie Haid, and her nieces, Christy and Jennifer, whose presence she valued deeply.

Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Barney, who passed away on January 28, 2021, and her parents, Paul Novak and Dorothy (Pfaff) Novak. Her family, both living and those who have passed, will forever hold her memories dear, honoring the legacy of love, strength, and resilience she imparted.

Cindy Lee Barney will be remembered for her vivacious personality, her passion for gardening, and the love she had for her family and pets, including her cherished cats and dogs. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Cremation is planned. Private burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
