OBITUARY: Christina Ann Bahner Zickefoose
Christina Ann Bahner Zickefoose, 98, Rossville, KS, died Tues., Oct. 25, 2011, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Topeka, KS. She was born Oct. 14, 1913, near Grove in Shawnee County, KS, the daughter of E. Phillip and Rosa Ann (Dvorak) Bahner.
She attended Stach, a one-room schoolhouse, now part of the Kansas State Historical grounds. She roomed "in town" and graduated in 1931 from Delia High School where she played basketball on the same team with her older sister, Julia. Christina married S.F. Zickefoose, DVM, in 1935 and moved with him to California, Mississippi, Georgia, Onaga, KS and returned to Rossville, KS in 1947.
She was a member of the Rossville Christian Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent for many years. She was past-worthy matron of Loyal Chapter of the Eastern Star. She served two terms on the Rossville Grade School Board. Christina was employed by the Farm Bureau Insurance Company as a secretary.
She pursued a life-long interest in gardening, collecting antiques, and needlework. She loved sports and closely followed KU basketball. Mrs. Zickefoose was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, four brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her children, Sam Zickefoose and his wife Marti of Prairie Village and her daughter, Jane Davis and her husband Allen of Topeka, grandchildren: Steven Davis (Connie) of Wichita; Paul Davis, Kansas City, KS; Brian Zickefoose (Brie) Prairie Village; and Anne Zickefoose Hu(Dennis) New York City and six great-grandchildren: Ellie, Nora, Fiona, and James Davis, Jack and Ethan Zickefoose.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Sat., Oct. 29, 2011, at Rossville Christian Church, 411 Spruce, Rossville, KS. Interment in Rossville Cemetery. Christina will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
