Chester Oren Gardner, 67, of Topeka, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
Chester was born on October 29, 1946 in Corydon, Iowa to Oren and Laura (Reuter) Gardner.
He graduated from Rossville High School in 1964. Chet was drafted soon after graduating and served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict.
He worked locally at Allis-Chalmers industrial equipment until their closure in 1985. He was a devoted father and husband.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Gardner of Topeka; son, Kenneth Gardner of Topeka; daughter, Kimberly Gardner of Lawrence; seven grandchildren, Shane Gardner, Stormy Lukasavage, Jason Gass, Harlee Crossett, Chance Gardner, Austin Gardner, and Aidan Gardner; his mother, Laura Gardner of Silver Lake; four sisters, Linda Barnes of Silver Lake, Bonnie (John) Stockton of Plainfield, IL, Lisa Duncan of Willard, and Chaundra Scott of Topeka as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Chet's wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22 at Imago Dei Church, 1201 NW Central Ave., Topeka KS 66608.The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Rossville Cemetery.
