Charles Earl "Chuck" Stowers

December 8, 1938 — August 13, 2024

Charles “Chuck” Earl Stowers went to his heavenly home on August 13, 2024 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born in Glen Lynn, Virginia on December 8, 1938. He was the son of Robert Elmer and Gertrude Francis Marie (Long) Stowers. His mom later married Emory Goolsby, who he spoke fondly of.

Chuck joined the United States Air Force and moved his mom and younger siblings to Berryton, Kansas. He was stationed at Forbes Field Air Force Base, Topeka Kansas, as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. He was able to see many countries while serving in the Air Force.

After leaving the Air Force, he met Margaret M. Heuertz while chauffeuring his brother and girlfriend, Margaret’s sister, around. They were married in Valley Falls, Kansas on November 5, 1966. They celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage, three daughters and built two houses from the ground up.

He worked as a surveyor/drafter and later became an Engineering Technician. He retired from Bartlett and West, Topeka, Kansas.

Chuck was a member of the Air National Guard reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant and he became a Deacon while attending Berryton Baptist Church in Berryton, Kansas. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his grandkids and great grandkids. We enjoyed his stories about growing up in Virginia, his travels with the Air Force, and working in a grain elevator. He also wore other hats in his lifetime as a real estate agent and a coach for his daughter’s softball team. He loved fishing, gardening and he planted fruit trees at almost every house he lived in. He loved westerns and war movies, airplanes and animals.

Chuck shared his excitement of airplanes with his daughters. When he heard an aircraft fly over, he would head outside followed by his daughters. He was able to identify the aircraft by the engine sound.

Chuck was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Stowers, Robert Stowers and Marvin Stowers; a sister, Christine Miller and a great granddaughter, Ace Marie Stowers.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three daughters, Carol (Doug) Flechsig of Carbondale, Michelle (Jason) Griffith of Topeka and Cindy (Daman) Hoar of Salina; one brother, Dave (Bev) Stowers of Topeka; three sisters, Bernice (Walt) Havenridge of Nebraska, Lillian (Carl) Erickson of Missouri and Betty (Merle) Martin of Berryton; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
