Charles "Norman" Jones, Sr., 84, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015.
He was born May 9, 1931 in Greenville, South Carolina, the son of Lawrence N. and Myrtle (Townsend) Jones. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was later stationed in Topeka where he met Opal R. Cobler. They were married in 1954. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bradley Jones; a daughter, Barbara "Cookie"; a son, Tommy L. Jones; and a great-grandson, Trenten Anthony Jones.
Survivors include two sons, Charles N. Jones, Jr. and Mitchell R. Jones, Sr., both of Topeka; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Thrasher, South Carolina.
Norman was employed by Frito Lay and retired from Flexel in 1993.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 400 of North Topeka.
Norman will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
A private burial with military honors for surviving sons and grandchildren will be at a later date at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
