Charles L. Freed, 84, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011.
He was born December 26, 1926 in Horton, KS, the son of Albert L. and Edna M. (Dunlap) Freed. He served in the U.S. Navy and the Air Force during WW II.
Mr. Freed was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company until retiring in 1974.
Charles married Ruth Stanton on March 14, 1949 in Reno, NV. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2005. Survivors include three children, Dennis Freed, Lecompton, Susan Kerwin, Ozawkie, and Daryl Freed, Topeka; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 9 siblings.
He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, hunting, coffee all day and reading and watching westerns.
Mr. Freed will lie in state after 1 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. A private family graveside ceremony will be at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka.
