Charles "Skip" Hull

Charles R. “Skip” Hull, 75, of Overbrook, Kansas passed away on April 6, 2021.   He was born January 16, 1946 at Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Joseph William and Wilma Jean Bethell Hull.  Skip graduated from Waverly High School in 1964 and Pittsburg State College in 1969 with a degree in engineering technology.  He was commissioned 2nd Lt. in the US Army in 1969 and served in Germany and Vietnam as a field artillery officer, achieving the rank of Captain.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked as an engineer in the rubber industry and worked at companies such as Gates Rubber in Denver, Colorado, Mission Rubber and Clay in Riverside, CA, Industrial Rubber, Parker-Hannifin and Utex.

In 1966, he married Carolyn Perry, having two sons, Todd and Travis; they divorced in 1977. Skip married Patricia Dewey Merritt on March 27, 1989 and she preceded him in death in 2013.

Skip was an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed hiking, mountain and road biking and made many friends while biking several hundred miles a year.  He loved being on the water kayaking when he lived in California, Texas, and Louisiana.  When he moved back to Kansas, he was known for his intarsia woodworking that he sold at local farmer’s markets and made as gifts for friends and family.

Survivors include two sons, Travis Hull of Seabeck, Washington and Todd Hull of Vero Beach, Florida; stepsons, Matt Merritt of Cankton, LA and Jarod Merritt of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, David and Tyler Hull, Mason, Benjamin, Owen, Kayleigh, Chloe, Kyle and Codie Merritt; and a sister, Iris Evans of Waverly, KS and her children, Joe and Jennifer Evans.

Memorial graveside services will be Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Waverly Cemetery in Waverly, KS.  Davidson Funeral Home of Topeka is assisting the family.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local sports team or cancer research institute.
