Charles C. "Charlie" Hendrix, 77, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Midland Hospice House.
Charlie was born May 10, 1939, in Oskaloosa, KS, to Alvin and Elizabeth "Irene" (Gross) Hendrix. He graduated from Perry High School in 1957 and joined the Kansas Army National Guard right after graduation. He was honorably discharged after four years. He was a supervisor for W.A.L. Thompson Hardware, Wentz Equipment, and Price Equipment. In 1987, he started Charlie's Lawn Service and only just retired this October. Charlie was an avid Oakland Raiders, Boston Celtics, and K-State Wildcat fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Kenneth, Jerry, and Paul Hendrix.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 31 years, Shawna D. (Cooper) Hendrix; ex-wife, Linda (Dehart) Hendrix; three children, Daryl Hendrix, Robin Schnacker, and Erick (Veronica) Dean; one step-daughter, Leslie Lange; two brothers, Keith and Loren Hendrix; four grandchildren, Jamie and Kelsie Schnacker, T.J. and Kyle Dean; one great-granddaughter, Hadlee Heberling; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hendrix in Lakin, KS and Stacey Budd of Las Vegas; numerous nieces, nephews and aunts; and his furry friend, Gizzy.
A funeral ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery, Overbrook. Charlie will lie in state from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
