Charles Gene Brey, 77, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014.
He was born March 20, 1936 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Charles Raymond and Mildred (Baker) Brey. He was a 1954 graduate of Ozawkie High School. He was stationed in Germany while serving in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Brey was retired from the Teamsters Union Local No. 696.
Charlie married Leatha Mae West. She preceded him in death. Survivors include three sons, Steve Brey and Danny Brey, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Timothy and Sherry Brey, Topeka; four grandchildren, Ashley, Christinia, Corey and Cody Brey; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian (Gary) Schlaegel, Whiting, KS; and a brother, Ed (Susan) Brey, Emporia, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Max Brey.
A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment with military honors will follow at the Ozawkie Cemetery. Charles will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
