OBITUARY: Charles Frederick Thomas
Charles Frederick Thomas, 73, Silver Lake, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born June 7, 1932, in Topeka, the son of Adolphus J. and Mabel M. (Howerton) Thomas.
Charles was raised in the Silver Lake community. In 1954 he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics. While at K.S.U. he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Alpha Zeta, and the Livestock Judging Team. He farmed in the Silver Lake and Rossville area. Charles was an active member in his church and community. At the Silver Lake United Methodist Church he was a member, a trustee, and served on the building committee. For 8 years he served on the Board of Education for U.S.D. 372. Currently, he served on the Board of Directors for Silver Lake Bank. Other memberships include the Kansas Livestock Association; Lake Lodge # 50, A.F. & A.M.; the K.S.U. Alumni Association; and K.S.U. President's Club.
He was married to Nancy Lou Smith on Aug. 2, 1959, in Bonner Springs, KS.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy, of the home; a daughter: Diannah Harrison of Manhattan; 3 sons: Arthur Thomas of Rossville, and Alan Thomas and Bruce Thomas both of Silver Lake; a brother: Adolphus H. "Tom" Thomas of Silver Lake; a sister: Louise A. Todd of Carmel, IN; and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 6, 2006, at Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Silver Lake Cemetery. Charles will lie in state after 12:00 noon, Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
