Charles Ernest Diehl, 75, Ozawkie, formerly of Topeka went to be with his Lord on August 2, 2006.
Charlie was born August 10, 1930 in Topeka the son of Adam J. and Ruth Erwin Diehl.
He graduated from Topeka High and took Real Property Appraisal Courses at Washburn University. Charlie served his country in the Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. In his early years Charlie worked for L.F. Garlinghouse and the Servis Van Doran and Hazard Engineering Firm. During that period of his life he also did house plans for individuals and two lumber companies in his spare time. Later in life he worked for the Government Housing Urban Development in both the architectural and appraisal departments. After retirement he went into business for himself as a Real Property Appraiser & Inspector for mortgage companies.
For five years he was a full time volunteer at Whispering Winds a Christian Camp near St. James, Missouri where he helped in maintenance and plans on several buildings. He was the architect for the Grace Bible Church on SE 37th Street, Topeka and the dining hall at Stony Crest Camp near Oskaloosa. Charlie also helped with the design of other churches and parsonages. Charlie was a member of the Rock Creek Bible Church of Meriden.
He loved horses and built a stable for his horses and boarded horses for others. Other hobbies included: gardening, fishing, hunting, and traveling. He loved the outdoors.
He married Marcia Yvonne Stevens in Topeka on May 8, 1955, she survives. Other survivors include two daughters: Stephanie Duggins and her husband Wes of Boyd, TX and Charlene Hardee and husband Brian of Ozawkie; nine grandchildren; a sister Lottie Glyn of Hastings, MN; two brothers Robert Diehl of Lovelady, TX and Reginald Spaunhurst of Mission, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ken Diehl of Sanger, CA.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5th , at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Charlie will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. today and family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Rock Creek Bible Church, 5257 Hwy K-92, Meriden 66512 or Bible Impact Ministries; PO Box 9, St James, MO 65559.
