Charles "Charlie" Crawford, 85, of Grantville, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
He was born December 11, 1935, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Merle and Lydia (Knipp) Crawford. He attended Seaman High School and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1953.
Charlie was an outstanding athlete. This was stemmed from his own father being the head coach. In high school he excelled at basketball, football, and track. His senior year at Leavenworth High School he earned his title as the 4A State High Jump Champion. His love for sports continued throughout his lifetime, most importantly, the KU Jayhawks.
Charlie was a Shift Foreman at Goodyear for over 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Grantville United Methodist Church, of Grantville.
He enjoyed watching the birds and gardening. He always wanted to be the first one on the block with his tomato plants. He loved eating home-grown meals out of the items harvested from the garden. His favorite meal was pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy.
Charlies collected depression era and elegant glass. He was actively involved with several class clubs; Imperial Glass Collectors Society, Stretch Glass Society and Prairie Land Depression Era Glass Club in Topeka. He was a glass expert knowing the value and many times the make and model number of items, giving many appraisals and seminars over the years.
Charlie was a man who enjoyed going to garage sales, flea markets, and auctions in search of anything collectible, or treasures he couldn't live without.
Most importantly, Charlie was a family man. He was proud to be a husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He cherished his family and his two Weiner dogs, Sadie and Suzie Q.
Charlie will be remembered by his loving wife Carol, they celebrated their 50-year wedding anniversary in 2020. Other survivors include his children; Belinda Crawford, Gary (Sheryl) Crawford, Doug Cain, Dorwin Crawford, and Carla (John) Williams; grandchildren, Jason (Lori) Crawford, Bradley (Jesica) Crawford, Amy Slyvester, Jennifer Cain, Jamie (Andy) Tillman, Casey Keithley, Jacob (Lori) Crawford, Tanner (Carlee) Crawford, Breanne Crawford, Jeremy Immenschuh, Joseph (Hannah) Immenschuh, Jessica Immenschuh, Jessica Williams, James Williams, Justine Williams and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Brown
A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS. Private Interment will take place at Newman Cemetery.
