Charles J. (Jack) Braden, 79, Topeka, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at his home. He was born Feb. 15, 1925 in Osceola, MO the son of Henry E. and Helen Ingram Braden. Jack served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked at the Supply Depot, Whelans Roofing Company and U.S.D. 501 Maintenance Dept., He was a member of Topeka North Post #400 of the American Legion and Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W. Jack was preceded in death by an infant sister, Georgia Braden and a brother Richard Braden. Jack was married to Lavern Norton, March 16, 1946 they divorced. He married Esther Rose Oct. 18, 1978 in Horton, KS. She died Feb. 15, 2002. Survivors include, son, Johnny E. Braden, Fairfax, VA; Daughters, Linda DeWeese and husband Harvey of Topeka; Cheryl Habig and husband Chuck; of Topeka; Son, Christopher E. Braden, Son: Eric D. Braden, both of Topeka; three sisters, Betty Gardner, Sabetha; Martha Roberts, Hiawatha; Reba Shaffer, Horton, Step-children; Richard Schumann, Jr., Donald Schuman, Kathie Jackson, Steve Schumann, Barbara Butler, Stacey Schuman; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Interment will be at Rochester Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by a Ft. Riley U.S. Army Funeral Detail. Mr. Braden will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made sent to the American Lung Association of Kansas 4300 SW Drury Lane Topeka, KS 66604.
