Cecil E. Lister

Cecil E. Lister, 87, LaFayette, Ga., formerly of Topeka, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, in LaFayette, Ga. He was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Westmoreland, the son of Hugh H. and Marie A. Valentine Lister. Mr. Lister retired from the Army at the rank of master sergeant after serving for 23 years. He was a corrections officer at the Topeka Correctional Facility for 12 years. He married Ethel M. Turman Lister in October 1944 in Gateville, Texas. She preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 1986. He married Mattie Knittel on June 20, 1987, in Topeka. She survives in LaFayette, Ga. Other survivors include two sons, Lee H. Lister and Jack D. Lister, both of Topeka; six daughters, Dorothy L. Doulat, Yorba Linda, Calif., Nancy G. Reeves and Stella J. Halley, both of Meriden, Sharon L. Hampton and June N. Tipton, both of LaFayette, Ga., and Beth L. Everett, Armuchee, Ga.; a sister, Bessie Manis, Auburn; 23 grandchildren: and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturda y at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka, where military honors will be conducted by a Fort Riley funeral detail. Mr. Lister will lie in state after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Countryside Hospice Care Inc., 104 E.
