OBITUARY: Cecelia E. Koontz
Cecelia E. Kendall Koontz, age 92, of Topeka, died Sat., Aug. 16, 2008, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born March 1, 1916, at Eads, CO, the daughter of S. Arthur and Agnes (Peterson) Kendall. Cecelia attended Dwight High School and Strickler's Business College in Topeka, and lived in Topeka since 1935. She married Philip B. Koontz, Jr., on Sept. 14, 1941. He died July 25, 1978.
Before her marriage she was a bookkeeper for the J.A. Lundgren Construction Co., and after WW II she was a clerk at the Veterans Administration Hospital for seven years. In 1953, she was employed as a Medical Records Administrator for the Menninger Foundation. She retired from that position in January, 1980.
She has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Topeka, since 1956, a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Altrusa Club of Topeka, and the Menninger Hilltoppers Organization. She was one of the first members of the Friends of Hospice Organization and worked with that Organization until 1991. Survivors include a brother, James Kendall of Council Grave, KS, and a niece, Jacquelyn Statman, of San Diego, CA.
